Patrick J. Kunz

Mr. Patrick John Kunz, 79, of Spooner, WI, formerly of West Saint Paul, MN, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Chippewa Falls Veteran’s Home from complications of dementia. 

Pat was born to Florence and Norbert Kunz in West Saint Paul, MN on August 22, 1946. He attended Saint Matthew’s Catholic School, Saint Thomas Academy, and graduated from Humboldt Senior High. After serving in the Vietnam War from 1966-68 he became an iron worker, eventually starting his own company, P.S.E. Growing up Pat was an altar boy, a four season athlete, and a loving son, deeply devoted to his mother. He survived both of his parents and his brothers Michael and James, his sister Kathleen, and Toni Finn, whom he raised. 

Patrick was also a deeply devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by sons Daniel Kunz (Rhonda) and Joseph Kunz (Amber) and daughters Sarah Wheat (Steven), Kathryn Kunz (Ryan Padilla), Elizabeth Kunz, and Heather and Robert Appert, whom he also raised; grandchildren Adam DeGenova, Hunter and Jenna Kunz, Kendall Marcy, Taylor Kunz, William and Michael Wheat, Woodrow and Rockwell Kunz Padilla, and Loretta and Francine Anderson; and great-grandchildren Isabella (Pea Pod), Luca, and Rory. He leaves behind any number of nieces and nephews as well as old friends. 

Pat traveled the country for work, was very quick witted, and could build anything with his hands. A hilarious, larger than life character, his children have never been able to prove the truth regarding the events of our dad’s life as he told them. So we invite you to come and share your stories and his memory at his funeral service.

Services to be held Friday, March 27, 2026. Visitation starts at 10:00 am and funeral services at 11:00 am. Saint Matthew's Catholic Community, 510 Hall Ave, Saint Paul, MN. Inurnment following at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 1:00 pm.
